Happy trading deadline!—and where I’ve been

July 31, 2011

No, I didn’t sink into a sullen swoon when it became clear that Colby “Father Knows Best” Rasmus was going away. I’ve just been a little preoccupied since Julie got thrown off a horse and broke her back. If her recovery continues to progress, she’ll spend less time on the DL than the Cardinals’ new shortstop has in the last year, but between her injury and a couple of trips (see below), I haven’t spent much time at the computer lately.

I’ll get back to action in the days and weeks ahead. Meanwhile, we can all use the time off to learn who plays for which team after today’s swap meet is complete—and here are a few photos from the first of my July baseball exploits (click “more” to see the whole batch):

At long last, I made my first trip to new Busch Stadium, and it didn't disappoint. Neither did the Cardinals, pounding the Reds 8-1.

Fun with closed-captioning: I guess this was supposed to say "the Ice Mountain Question of the DAY," but I like to think of it as a small but significant step toward equality.

Matt Holliday, in some heady company.

Jason Motte's moves.

Tito Landrum---my favorite childhood player after Brock retired---probably didn't remember that we'd met once before, when I was nine and he signed my Cardinal sports bag. BUT I DID.

that time-lapse on Motte is very cool (as is your write-up)!

Thanks! And sorry for taking so long to approve your comment—the blog is sorely neglected right now.
