There is no try

And by that I mean that whoever sat around the boardroom tables at MLB and/or Kinect when this promotion was conceived wasn’t even trying to be anything other than lazy and sexist:

If your first response is “Baseball…..Star Wars…..video games…..contest open to anyone 18 and older…..wait, why is this an ‘Ultimate Father-Son Sweepstakes’ when all these things could apply and appeal to girls and women, too? I mean, besides the obvious ‘I am your father’ joke, which stopped being funny about twenty years ago,” then congratulations! Not only are you not a lazy sexist, but you also know more about Star Wars than the folks at MLB and Kinect think you do.

If you’d like to enter the contest, visit the sweepstakes page at MLB.com. And may the f…..never mind.

Have you read this article from This Recording? I think it says it all.

Basically some people (read: men) sincerely don’t realize women may like Star Wars and other “manly” things.

Being “sincere” does not provide a free-pass for sexist, racist, or other bigoted behavior. If the people running MLB.com sincerely don’t realize that plenty of women and girls love baseball and that they have fucketonnes of money to spend on baseball just like men and boys, then they should pull their heads out of their asses and stop being such ignorant privileged douchebagges and insulting half of their potential fan base by implying that they either don’t exist or are irrelevant.
